Nigerian Man Sentenced To 27yrs Jail Term In The US Over Love Scam -PIC
A Nigerian man Olayinka Ilumsa Sunmola, has been sentenced
to 27 years in jail by a US court for an international romance scam he
perpetrated from 2007 to 2014.
Lagos-born Sunmola, who was the ringleader of a love scam organisation based in South Africa, was also ordered to repay $1.7m.
Sumola and others scammed many American women of millions of dollars while parading themselves as American soldiers stationed overseas or engineers working on a large government contract in South Africa.
They cultivated romantic relationships with dozens of women using pictures of men they found online, sometimes pictures of dead servicemen from memorial websites.
Prosecutors said Sumola’s activities drove some to bankruptcy and at least one to the brink of suicide.
The 33-year-old showered the women with poetry, cards, flowers, stuffed animals, and chocolates until he has successfully entrapped them. Once his target his entrapped, Sunmola began to
manufacture emergencies, each of which required increasingly large amounts of money from his victims. Sunmola used their money for lavish parties, two Range Rovers, four properties in South Africa and a $363,000 home in Nigeria, prosecutors said.
A federal grand jury sitting in East St. Louis indicted Sunmola in November 2013 on charges of mail fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy, and interstate extortion.
After two days of a jury trial Sunmola pleaded guilty to eight felonies, including mail fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy, and interstate extortion.
In his ruling Judge Herndon said,

Girl, 4, Dies After Being 'Kicked In Stomach By Her Own MOTHER For Not Brushing Her Teeth
A four-year-old girl who was allegedly kicked in the stomach by
her own mother for not brushing her teeth has died.
Iris Hernandez-Rivas, 20, of Gaithersburg in Maryland, called emergency services on 911 at around 12:30pm yesterday afternoon. According to FOX 5 she reported that her daughter was simply unresponsive.
Police and paramedics rushed to her apartment, where the mother told them her daughter had gone into the bathroom at about 11:15 am and started the shower.
She is then said to have claimed that around 15-20 minutes later she found her daughter lying face
down in the bath.
Hernandez-Rivas is reported to have told police she waited an hour before calling 911.
The child was rushed to Adventist Healthcare Shady Grove Medical Center in Rockville in serious condition.
FOX 5 reports that medical staff discovered she had multiple bruises on her body and was suffering from head trauma. She became critical and was then flown to Children's National Medical Center in Washington DC - but later died.
Police later interviewed Hernandez-Rivas who is reported to have revealed she had kicked her daughter in the stomach at around 10.30am that morning after becoming angry at her not having brushed her teeth.
Hernandez-Rivas claimed that her daughter fell backwards - hitting her head on the living room wall.
She is reported to have then claimed that after her daughter fell to the ground she appeared lethargic - and then went to the bathroom.
When Hernandez-Rivas went to check on the girl, she claimed, she found her lying face down in the bath.
FOX 5 also reported that Hernandez-Rivas also admitted to detectives that the bruises on her daughter's body were a result of her striking her with a belt days earlier.
The mother has so far been charged with one count of first-degree child abuse - and one count of first-degree assault.
Police are awaiting an official cause of death from the medical examiner before reviewing the charges.

Maybe after other producers watched the movie, they liked us together and began to cast us alongside each other. Information Kampamba Mulenga has called on Zambians to forget her past records

According to the report, before her appointment as a Minister in the country, Mulenga was rumoured to be a popular prostitute or runs girl.
But speaking in Livingstone last week, the former s*x worker said she was deeply saddened by some Zambians who still refer to her past (of being a s*x worker) when describing her. She reiterated the fact that she is now a changed person as she has left her past behind.
“I am a change person who deserve to be welcomed and accepted in the society”, she told some PF senior members in Livingstone.
Before she joined politics, it is alleged that Ms Kampamba Mulenga was infamous for being a prominent s*x worker on the Copperbelt.

Construction Of Vice President's Gate House To Cost N250m - Dino Melaye Raises Alarm
The Chairman, Senate Committee on the Federal
Capital Territory, Senator Dino Melaye, has said the National Assembly will
call for a review of the contract awarded for the construction of the official
residence of the Vice-President.
According to Melaye, the gatehouse of the three-bedroomed apartment will cost N250m.
The senator, while addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday, also alleged sharp practices by the contractor handling the construction of the official residences of the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Melaye was asked about the effort by the Federal Capital Development Authority to ensure that the Senate President, Bukola Saraki; and the Speaker, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, eventually move into their official accommodation.
He replied, “As chairman of the committee, even if the Senate President had not asked that the money (for the project) be removed from the budget, we would have stopped it. You will recall that I was on an oversight function with some of you and we visited these buildings, and I can say that they were built at skyrocketing, over-inflated prices.
“As I speak to you, the mosque that is occupying less than 100 square meters, that is meant to be the prayer place for the Senate President and the deputy Senate President’s residences, and even the Vice-President’s residence, was awarded for over N200m. And it’s a three-bedroomed ‘boys quarterless’ structure.
“The gatehouse of the Vice-President’s residence was also awarded at over N250m. We are going to call for a review of that contract. Julius Berger said they were going to build a concrete building. I went there with a hammer and I hit it on the wall and I saw block. That investigation is ongoing. We want to make sure that government is not being short-changed. So, we are definitely going to call for a review of the contract because this is a rape of the taxpayers’ money.”
Melaye’s figure on the cost of the gatehouse, however, varied from that of the House of Representatives Committee on FCT, which, in February 2016, queried the then Minister of the FCT, Muhammed Bello, for spending N55m on the budget.
The House of Representatives had also criticised Bello’s administration for building a 12-person capacity mosque on the premises for N96m; a 20-person capacity chapel at N86m; as well as the aide-de-camp and Chief Security Officer’s residences for for N288m.
The contract for the construction of the Vice-President’s residence was awarded by the ex-President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration in 2009 at a cost of N7bn.
But a former Minister of the FCT, Senator Bala Mohammed, requested from the Senate, an additional N9bn to complete the project.
The variation was expected to accommodate a helipad.
The then Executive Secretary, FCDA, Adamu Ismail, had later told the Senate Committee on FCT that the additional N9bn had been slashed by the Bureau for Public Procurement to N6bn.
Ismail explained that the variation was also meant to provide furniture, fencing, two additional protocol guest houses, a banquet hall and security gadgets.
